This 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera has a claimed 62,879 miles and is finished in Arctic Silver over Black leather. Seller states, “This 996 Carrera spent its entire life as a California car. This Porsche is a well cared for example”. The seller also states the IMS bearing has been replaced. Find this one offered here in Burbank, CA for $22,700.
We think this car could be a great score for someone looking to get into the 996 game. We don’t have a VIN and the pics aren’t great so we’ll do our best. The car appears to be a base spec in that on the exterior we are only seeing the optional 18″ Carrera Lightweights wrapped in Pilot Sport tires. Ad also states the car is riding on a set of KW coilovers and fabspeed exhaust.
Not much going on in the interior as it’s finished in standard “black” leather with what appear to be 997 seats.
If we had to guess, we would guess this car saw track time. Thats not necessarily a bad thing. At the current ask we think at a minimum it’s worth an inquiry. This is 996.1 money for a 996.2 with new IMS. Don’t forget that PPI! Make this Silver on black 996 your #FirstFlatSix.
“Metzger engine”??
“935 seats”??
Tons of weirdly mislabeled parts on a 911 are all auction-grinder red flags I’d start with asking where is the VIN and only deal locally from there. Prob a theft recovery telling from the seats but there is no predicting where this one will lead 🙂
And history is already tilting hard towards the original MKI Lai design. Prices on MKII’s are already inverting beneath it. This will only increase as MKII will likely turn out a miserable plasti-chrome hack next to the timeless, and eventually, highly collectible MKI.
Due diligence is the name of the game. The car was 99% tracked. KW coils could be $2-5K depending on the type. Alignment, corner balance etc is easily another $1k in Cali. Steering wheel, brake pads etc. In one of the pics you can see a 997 GT3 in the background. Is the ad riddled with “misinformation”? Yes, but use that as a buying opportunity.
As for MK1 vs MKII, thats still left to be decided. We’ve owned both and we prefer the dot2. What the market thinks will be another story, but a 99 w/lsd will likely be the first to rise in value (speaking narrowbodies only).
