I know what you’re thinking, “Did they make these in any other color?”. 2001 saw the introduction of the 996 Turbo. On the exterior the Turbo body was widened 65mm at the rear and a new moving rear wing was designed to improve lift. From the pic above it’s clear that the spoiler was swapped with an aftermarket variety.
The front-end was redesigned with a new bumper designed for better road holding and downforce and the lights were reworked after all the complaining customers did because the 911 couldn’t be distinguished from the “pedestrian” Boxster. The stock front lip spoiler has been swapped with an aftermarket carbon unit.
This Turbo appears to sport it’s stock aluminum Brembo “Big Red” Calipers, 330mm (13″) discs and 18″ Turbo wheels.
From the factory, this 996 Turbo sports the M96/70 twin-turbo charged, DOHC engine good for 420 HP with updated VariocamPlus and DME. Porsche couldn’t fit the intercooler on top of the engine, like in previous iterations, so it was split into two and mounted on each side of the engine. The cooling is supplied through the ducts to the rear of the doors (thus widebody). An aftermarket intake is clearly seen above. Disclaimer; prospective buyers should do their due diligence in regards to other engine mods with this one.
The interior is finished in “Metropol Blue” leather (no full leather treatment), with Carbon, shifter, brake, center console and alcantera headliner. The factory head-unit has been swapped for an aftermarket unit.
These 996 Turbos offer exotic levels of performance for not much money. Very low mileage examples (think tweens) are selling in the $70K range. Driver quality 30K/40K-Mile examples can save you $20K+ dollars. The Mezger engines are known to be bulletproof provided the scheduled maintenance is performed. The Carfax claims only 4 sellers, with CA and Oklahoma ownership. Don’t forget that PPI! This won’t last long.
