5/24/18: And she’s gone
This 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 (VIN WP0AA2993XS62135X) has a claimed 108k miles on the clock and is said to be, “an absolute blast to drive, and honor to own”. The seller says it’s “a great driving, performing and looking car”. The listing indicates, the IMS/RMS was “recently repaired”, along with new tires, new brakes and new oxygen sensors. Find this one offered here on CarGurus in Carson, California for $13,000.
So yeah, they’re asking $13K, this is a deal right? Well lets pump the brakes for a second. Some definite red flags with this one. For one, the VIN isn’t accurate, could be a typo, but maybe done on purpose? The second flag, it’s listed as a private seller, yet the car is wearing a dealer tag from a dealer that google says is closed permanently and whose website has been suspended.
With the debbie downer stuff out of the way, if it checks out mechanically, this could be a great first flat-six 911. The paint does look like its in dire need of paint correction. The wheels appear to be of the 17″ Cup 2 variety which was not a stock offering on any 996. The front bumper air inlets also appear to have some aftermarket insets, so check for possible front end damage.
All that being said, this could be a great entry into the 911 brotherhood. Ask for a picture of the windshield VIN, the option code sticker, the IMS/RMS work order receipt, run a fresh carfax and don’t forget that PPI.
