6/5/18 Update: And she’s gone
This 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S (VIN NOT IDENTIFIED) has a claimed 90,402 miles and is finished in Seal Gray. The seller states, “Going to sell it to Porsche this weekend unless someone can beat their offer”. No mention of any IMS/RMS work. Find this one offered here on Craigslist in La Mesa, California for $21,900.
Craigslist ad here in case someone takes advantage of this offering before you read this.
The Carrera 4S or C4S for short, was first introduced in 1994 in the US market. Porsche took a bunch of unsold 964 3.6L Turbo chassis assemblies and created the 964 Carrera Turbo-look. They then did the same thing with the 993 to create the Carrera 4S Coupe. Rinse and repeat, and here we are with the 996 version. We here at firstflatsix think Seal Gray is one of the better looking colors on the 996. It looks great on this C4S.
For the 996 version, Porsche added a full width rear reflector and removed the side air intakes. Essentially, the C4S is a Turbo without the turbocharged “Mezger” engine and side air intakes. Stainless Steel exhaust tips appear to be the only cosmetic option on this car.
This C4S is sporting it’s “Big Red” calipers with stock 18″ BBS Turbo wheels. The seller claims the car has “new tires” but offers no specifics because…Craigslist.
The C4S’s came with the same naturally aspirated 3.6L flat-six that was good for 320HP that was found in every other base (996.2) Carrera. Again, no word on any IMS/RMS work from the seller. Plenty of a 996.2 has grenaded with 100K plus miles, don’t take the chance.
The interior is finished in Graphite Grey Full Supple Leather (dash and door cards draped in leather) and looks to have the factory carbon fiber bits package (steering wheel, console, shifter and hand brake). I don’t spy anything else besides the on-board computer in the gauge cluster.
A lot of folks prefer the widebody Turbo looks as compared to the base narrow-body Carrera. Others prefer the AWD for all year driving in colder areas. Whatever the reason, this is priced under market. A 110K-mile C4S with some forgettable aftermarket wheels sold for $23,415 on BaT not too long ago. This has been on CL for 18 days, so I’m sure you can do even better. Ask for a Carfax/Autocheck and don’t forget that PPI! After your purchase, make the first stop you indy mechanic to take care of the IMS/RMS and make this C4S your #firstflatsix!
