9/11/18 Update: Gone
This 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S (VIN WP0AA29992S623414) has a claimed 64,474 miles and is finished in Black over Natural Brown Leather. The seller states, “GARAGE KEPT, AND ALL SERVICES ARE UP TO DATE”. Find this one offered here on CarGurus in Baton Rouge, LA for $22,887.
I know what you’re thinking guys, has to be a scam right? The dealer is a real dealer with pretty awesome reviews across all the major car sites (ie google, cargurus cars.com etc). I have searched high and low for the typical used car dealer schemes, i.e advertised price includes $5K downpayment, must finance through dealer at some inflated interest rate etc and found none of that. The car itself, while it does show an accident and damage report on the carfax, and did hop around a lot in its early life, does not appear to be a salvaged/reconstructed car. And finally, the car was NOT in New Orleans during Katrina. So here we go…
The Carrera 4S or C4S for short, was first introduced in 1994 in the US market. Porsche took a bunch of unsold 964 3.6L Turbo chassis assemblies and created the 964 Carrera Turbo-look. They then did the same thing with the 993 to create the Carrera 4S Coupe. Rinse and repeat, and here we are with the 996 version.
For the 996 version, Porsche added a full width rear reflector and removed the side air intakes. Essentially, the C4S is a Turbo without the turbocharged “Mezger” engine and side air intakes.
The C4S’s came with the same naturally aspirated 3.6L flat-six that was good for 320HP that was found in every other base (996.2) Carrera. In this case, the seller claims that maintenance is up to date and the Carfax does indeed show a lot of maintenance throughout the years. Unfortunately no word on any IMS/RMS work, but this is so cheap, it shouldn’t deter you from buying.
The interior is finished in Natural Brown Full Leather (dash and door cards) and heated seats. The Advanced Technic package (Bose Digital, 12 speaker and CD changer) round out the interior.
A lot of folks prefer the widebody Turbo looks as compared to the base narrow-body Carrera. Others prefer the AWD for all year driving in colder areas. Whatever the reason, this is priced WAY under market. A 59K-mile C4S and NO IMS WORK sold for $29,400 on BaT not too long ago. The IMS/RMS/Clutch work is about $2500-$3500 so you’re already a winner even paying full ask. Don’t forget that PPI! Make this SUPER Cheap 4S, your firstflatsix.
