Entry to 911 Ownership! 60K-Mile ’99 996 Carrera 6sp

Posted on January 15, 2019 by flatsixadmin

This 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera (VIN WP0AA2995XS620534) has a claimed 60,800 miles on the clock and is finished in Arctic Silver over Graphite Grey leather.  The seller states, “HAS BEEN IN SAME FAMILY SINCE 2011”. No mention of any IMS/RMS/Clutch work. Find this one offered  here on Autotrader in Yukon, Oklahoma for $17,995.

So last week’s $26K 996 Carrera sparked a lot of chatter in the comments about being overpriced. We obviously didn’t agree (we would’t have posted). We got a lot of “you can find these for $20K all day here in California”. Well here you go, this is the kind of “$20K” 996 you will find. Don’t get us wrong, we still like this car a lot as entry into 911 ownership, but this IS NOT the $26K car and it’s price reflects that.

Check out the PCA story on why the 1999 Carrera is the one to have. We have said this 107X but I will repeat it for the new readers, we REALLY like the simplicity of the narrowbody 996 Carrera. In particular the 99’s because of the cable connected throttle (this car has it), the 4 spoke 993 style steering wheel (this car has it) and the optional factory Limited Slip Differential (this car DOES NOT have it).

This car appears to be in great shape. Modern enough, but still brings the nostalgic feelings of the 993, READ THE PCA story. We don’t spy many exterior options at all, we’re just seeing the 17″ Boxster twists (lightest 996 wheels and cheaper tires) and amber (fried egg) headlamps and tail lights. We can assume this is an early build as the switch to clear lenses happened sometime in the summer of ’98 production cycle.

As for the interior, we spy draped graphite grey leather on both front (comfort seats) and rear seats and previously mentioned 4 spoke steering wheel. This car is pretty bare bones but does appear to have a rear wiper for all you rear window lovers.

This car is a great enthusiast spec. 296Hp, 6sp, cable throttle, 4 spoke wheel and driver quality mileage. Make sure to run a CarFax and don’t forget the PPI.  99’s had the dual row IMS which had a far less failure rate, but since you’re do for a clutch in this car anyway, we’d replace the IMS for piece of mind. Make this classic Carrera your firstflatsix!
