6/13/18 Update: And she’s gone.
This 1999 Porsche 911 Carrera (VIN WP0AA299XXS620402) has a claimed 29,200 miles on the clock and appears to be a very early build. Finished in what appears to be Arctic Silver, no mention or any IMS/RMS, work. Find this one offered here on Cargurus in Mcallen, Texas for $21,997.
I know what you’re thinking folks, “Another Silver narrow body 996 Carrera?” But hear me out, the 996 Carrera makes a great firstflatsix 911. This one particularly deserves to be highlighted, which is why it’s here :). Besides, the Guards Red 996.2 Coupe I was planning to write up tonight went missing at this typing (you snooze you lose).
The 996.1 came stock with a 3.4 liter flat-six pumping out 296 hp and a cable connected throttle as opposed to the electronic throttle “e-gas” that came standard in 2000+ models. Many drivers prefer the feel of the cable connected pedal to throttle for a more raw visceral feel. From the sellers listing pictures this car DOES NOT appear to be equipped with the factory Limited Slip Differential (LSD) which is a bummer.
This Carrera is sporting the 18″ BBS Sport Classic wheels (which we love). No indication of rubber, but this thing is obviously lowered on some type of suspension. It’s really low, if I had to guess, I’d say cheap springs. Make sure you check them out, they could be racing coils, who knows.
The early 996’s shared the same assembly line as the legendary 993. As an added bonus, you get the 993 style 4 spoke steering wheel with this car. You can tell this is an early car because of the graphite console trim and the amber lens headlights (Fried egg) and tail light lenses. The interior appears to be finished in “Black” supple leather but lacking the full leather (dash and doorcard options). We’re also seeing white/aluminum faced dials and not seen very often, a center ashtray door that CLOSES!
If we’re being honest, the interior appears a bit rough for only 28K miles. The frunk handle and seat wear doesn’t exactly scream 28K garage queened miles.
As I mentioned earlier, pure 996 goodness right here folks. Be sure to ask for a picture of the option codes, run a fresh Carfax/Autocheck and don’t forget that PPI. This Carrera is bound to be someones firstflatsix.
