How cool is this, I open up this months PCA Panorama Sept 2020 to see a “FirstFlatSix” name drop!!!! For those that may not be aware, the Editor of Panorama Magazine recently acquired a 996. He wrote a piece about it in the July issue and immediately caught flack from the usual suspects that typically attend your local Cars and Coffee (usually in a recently acquired Air-Cooled or GT3RS). Anyway, he followed up about the criticism he received in this months issue. I can’t post the whole article, but if you’re a 911 fan, head over to PCA.org and get yourself a subscription to read more…
“…I recently wrote an online piece about setting out to buy a 911 SC Targa and accidentally coming home with a 996 that Pano contributor Nathan Merz had found in The Mart. It’s my second 996, but it’s also a car owned in the context of five previous, air cooled 911’s, including a 2.4 Liter 911S. Because of my experiences as an owner of older 911’s, I’m not sensitive about the 996 -its shortcomings pale against the realization that it probably enjoys the most lopsided fun-to-price ratio of any Porsche at the moment…”

I’ve finally arrived at the only possible explanation for the interminable, now two decades (and counting) of viperous vitriol hurled against Type 996 is simply their jealousy of our GT-1 headlights.
And now with the Factory’s newly enshrining Type 996 as a “Young Classic”, and recent parading of the 996 GT-1 at LeMans to rebask it’s multiple victories, this bitter resentment will surely wax even worse.
Meanwhile money talks. And no 911 Type in history has rebounded off bottom as resoundingly as ours. History wants the 996. Res ipsa loquitur, Boomers.
I could not agree more . having eyed 911’s and Porsches in general for years , I finally bought my first porsche / 996 and could not be happier !
For the money, it’s my own little amusement park.
We agree John, and CONGRATS on the new purchase!!!
I have owned my 2001 cab for one year I love this car! It is Arctic silver over black and is in great shape. I had a pup done and bought it for way under market had a new water pump and plugs done she runs great and there are absolutely no oil leaks. A fantastic car that turns heads everywhere.
Congrats Greg! Reach out to us when you want to sell 🙂
My ‘01 996TT is so much fun to drive! I’ve driven my friend’s 996 Carreras and they’re equally as fun to drive. Anyone who doesn’t enjoy them, either hasn’t spent enough time behind the wheel of one on fun roads, or just doesn’t like cars lol Embrace the eggs!
